I had the pleasure of spending the past weekend at The Shawnee Inn & Golf Resort. The Shawnee Inn was built-in 1911 in the picturesque Pocono Mountains. Once a prime location for Couples looking for love with Champagne shaped hot tubs. Now the Pocono’s are becoming a fantastic location for families. With Indoor Water Parks, Zip Lines, Outlets, Skiing & Casino’s there is a little something for everyone year round. This resort had so much to offer. #ShawneeInn
With winter upon us, I decided to take a quick weekend trip to the Pocono Mountains so my daughter could go skiing. Just under one hour and 30 minutes door to door. It was at least 13 years since I visited the Shawnee Inn. So I was very excited to see how much it has changed since my last visit. So much did change and all for the better. Last summer we stayed at the Chateau and checked out CBK Adventures for some Zip lining and ropes courses. I can say I am officially not a fan, Of zip lining that is. Plus you get two runs for the same price and the second time around was not easier.. I just knew what to expect and that I knew once again I wouldn’t enjoy the way down. This time around my visit to the Poconos was much different. There was snow on the ground and it looked like a winter wonderland.
From the moment we stepped into the resort we were treated with the highest level of service. From check in to help with our bags everything went on with out a hitch. With a warm inviting lobby with leather couches, tables for two and a lit fireplace. To the outside porch with a line of rocking chairs not one out of place. Very elegant and very relaxing.
When we entered our room it was quaint with two double beds with white bedding. On the bed was a daily activity sheet with a list of what was happening over the weekend. This was something you do not find at your average resort, so it was a great find. They even had a Pillow Menu.. Yes from Down to Feathers you had a selection to choose from. We checked in on a Saturday afternoon and first stop was the pool. The indoor pool is open from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm daily. They have a very clean indoor pool with cushioned lounge chairs and a very large adult only hot tub. After swimming we checked the daily activity schedule and it was time for my daughter to take part in Archery which she really enjoyed. They also have a small arcade with Stacker too! If you’re looking for a little entertainment you can get tickets to see live theater in the Shawnee Playhouse. Tickets range from $15, $25 to $28. This month features Little Shop of Horrors.. looking forward to checking that out at the end of the month.
Now was the time to head out to Shawnee Mountain for skiing. The actual ski resort is only 2.7 miles from the Inn. It took us exactly 5 minutes to get there. The mountain has two food courts, and two bars with dining. We were able to save 30% off of our lift tickets, for the twilight ticket from 3:00pm to 10:00pm the cost for two lift tickets was $47.00. The conditions were fantastic. For the non skiers there is a spa at the resort also along with a gym too, back at the Shawnee Inn. Or you can just hang out at the ski lodge for some cocktails or surf the web while the kids are in ski school. They even have snow tubing in 2 or 4 hour sessions. #SkiShawnee. One of the daily activities was Snowman making, unfortunately this took place when we were at the mountain, so we will have to check that out on our next visit.
When we returned to the resort we saw they had the Fire Pit Roaring outdoors with all the ingredients to make S’mores.. Yes real Hershey Bars too.. When we returned to the resort and entered the lobby the indoor fireplace was lit and a Piano player was playing music in the lobby. There were a handful of guests relaxing with coffee or drinks just listening to the music. We stopped into the Buckwood Cafe for some hot chocolate. Yes it also was the best hot chocolate I ever had. Can not wait to get some more soon.
While getting ready for dinner I heard a knock on the door, I was surprised to see someone wheeling a card, delivering us cookies to the room. What a great way to start the evening. Cookies for turn down service. Peanut Free too!
We spent a little time at the bar enjoying a cocktail with one of the friendliest bar tenders, talking about the history of the ShawneeInn. While waiting for friends. Once our friends arrived we drove over to get a quick bite to eat on property at The Gem. For some wings, burgers and cheese steaks. The food was very good. So was the company. We are going to try the Keystone Brewpub™ located above the Gem. They also brew their own ShawneeCraft® Beer on site and invite you also take a tour of the Brewery. The ShawneeCraft® Beer is served throughout the resort.
The following morning we got up to have breakfast and enjoyed a fully stocked buffet. Very clean and well-appointed. They had an omelette station and even a waffle maker, where you can make your own waffles.. Which went well with my daughter who is 11. She put plenty of chocolate chips in her’s. The wait staff were very friendly and accommodating. Serving us hot coffee and fresh squeezed orange juice. A great way to start the morning before heading back home.
