Everyone want’s a chance to bring their family to Walt Disney World. Not everyone can find it very affordable, especially for larger families. That is why it is good to plan early and take advantage of some of my tips below. Affording a trip to Walt Disney World.
Listed below are a few ways to save money and how to plan early to make Magical Memories for your family at Walt Disney World. If you keep telling your self it is too expensive you will never get there. So follow some of my tips below and make it happen.
Affording a Walt Disney World Vacation
- Sign up for a Disney Vacation Account it is FREE. This is a great option if you are looking to go on an Adventures By Disney Vacation, A Disney Cruise, Walt Disney World or Visit Aulani in Hawaii. You set the budget and time frame and make it happen. You can open an account with as little as a $10 deposit.
- Disney Gift Cards – Ask family and friends to give you Disney Gift Cards for any upcoming holidays or birthdays. You can use them to pay off your package. If they purchase them in Target with a Target Red Card they will also save another 5%. Or you can purchase them at Target and save the 5% yourself to pay off your balances.
- Disney Visa Card – Apply for a Disney Chase Credit Card this will earn you points to use on future trips or while you are on vacation.
- Book Early – Book your package over a year in advance and that will give you plenty of time to pay it off a little at a time.
- Save your change – Start saving your Change it adds up, go to your local Coin Star machine or bank and turn into found money.
Booking your Package – Disney only requires a $200 deposit and you can make as many payments as you like until your final balance is due 30 days prior to arrival. Typically you can book your package about a year and a half prior to arrival. Disney’s usually releases it’s package pricing in the mid summer. That is where you can book your Room, Tickets and or one of the Disney Dining Plans. Since it is so far in advance you will book your package at Rack Rate. Then down the line Disney should release promotions for Spring, Summer, Winter and Fall. At that time if you are already booked with me I will go into my system and review all of my bookings to see who qualifies and make any revisions necessary to save you money. If your travel dates meet the new offers you should be fine, sometimes we may need to change your travel dates, hotel, or room category to match your booking to a new Disney Promotion. Typically the best offers are when kids are still in school. So this is great for smaller kids as it is much harder to take older kids out of school for long periods of time. When booking direct with Disney they will not call you to let you know there is a new promotion to save you money. It is always best to book with a Travel Agent, as they will automatically revise your packages once the offers are released.
Booking a Magic Your Way Package is the best way to save. You not longer need to add airfare to make it a package. As you will not save by adding the flights onto your package through Disney. TSA has new regulations so it is best to book your own flights typically. Once you have booked your own Flights all you need to do is give your Travel Agent your Airline & Flight numbers and they will add them onto your package for your FREE Magical Express Airport Transfers.
Go Basic – Standard View Rooms, Base Theme Park Tickets (One Park Per Day), Add the Disney Dining Plan to save 20% off your food. Add Memory Maker prior to arrival for advanced savings. (Memory Maker is the best way to make family memories) what a great souvenir to take home. Then if you have extra money down the road you can always upgrade your package and revise your tickets after the promotions are released. You can also book a Room Only Reservation 499 days in advance. This can be converted later to a Magic Your Way Package. (Some restrictions apply). Disney has up charge fees for Room Location and Theme Park Ticket add on options like the Park Hopper and Water Park Fun & More. Some people will pay for convenience, I love my Park Hopper as I enjoy dining in Epcot most nights. But if you are looking to save money then skip the add on ticket options.
Travel off peak – When kids are in school and non holidays. If you are a teacher and can only travel when school is out of session then go during the Summer rather than Spring Break or Christmas. Christmas is the most expensive time to go and has large crowds, the same with Spring Break the cost of Airfare is very high. You should take a Disney Cruise during Spring Break or the Holidays. Since the ships have capacity limits so crowds wont be an issue, where Walt Disney World will be filled to capacity daily during those peak times.
